VANCOUVER, BC (July 15, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports traders expressing concerns about the U.S. debt limit and the results of the European bank stress tests, stocks moved sharply lower at the start of trading on Monday. The major averages all moved to the downside, extending the downward move seen last week.
In recent trading, the major averages have seen some further downside, falling to new lows for the young session. The Dow is down 112.85 points or 0.9 percent at 12,366.88, the Nasdaq is down 19.44 points or 0.7 percent at 2,770.36 and the S&P 500 is down 9.16 points or 0.7 percent at 1,306.98.
The initial weakness on Wall Street came as traders worry about whether Democrats and Republicans will be able to reach an agreement on raising the debt limit and avoid a default.
The issue of taxes remains a sticking point in the negotiations, with Republicans insisting that they will not accept any tax hikes, while President Barack Obama has called for a “balanced approach” that includes higher taxes on wealthier Americans along with reductions in spending on social programs.
The U.S. is projected to surpass the $14.3 trillion debt limit on August 2nd and could be forced to default if the ceiling is not raised by then. In order for both houses of Congress to pass a bill by the deadline, the framework of an agreement will likely need to be hammered out within the next few days.
Lingering concerns about the European debt crisis is also likely to weigh on stocks, as traders continue to digest the results of the stress tests that were released last Friday.
Peter Boockvar, equity strategist at Miller Tabak, said, “Instead of garnering more confidence, the European bank stress tests spurred more concerns.”
“This is not because only 8 banks failed, but more due to the reality that has been mostly fully revealed that banks not only have large sovereign holdings of iffy credits but also have huge exposure to the private sector of each of the troubled economies,” he added.
Airline stocks have shown a substantial move to the downside in early trading, dragging the NYSE Arca Airline Index down by 3.2 percent. SkyWest (SKYW) is leading the sector lower after warning of weaker than expected second quarter results.
Steel, networking, and housing stocks have also come under pressure, moving to the downside along with most of the major sectors. On the other hand, gold stocks are bucking the downtrend as the price of the precious metal climbs above $1,600 an ounce.
In overseas trading, stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region closed mostly lower on Monday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell by 0.3 percent, while Australia’s All Ordinaries Index edged down by 0.1 percent. The Japanese markets were closed for a public holiday.
The major European markets are also showing notable moves to the downside on the day. The French CAC 40 Index is down by 1.4 percent, while the German DAX Index and the U.K.’s FTSE 100 Index are both falling by 1 percent.
In the bond market, treasuries are turning in a lackluster performance, lingering near the unchanged line. Subsequently, the yield on the benchmark ten-year note, which moves opposite of its price, is down by less than a basis point at 2.904 percent.

VANCOUVER, BC (July 18, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:HTZ) and Donlen Corporation announced July 17, 2011 they have signed a definitive agreement for Hertz to acquire Donlen, a leading provider of fleet leasing and management services. The transaction has been approved by the boards of directors of both companies, and by the stockholders of Donlen. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2011, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

The acquisition of Donlen is consistent with the evolution of Hertz’s asset-light, technology focused business model. Donlen is primarily a vehicle financing and fleet management consulting business which deploys leading technology applications to support its customers.
Additionally, this transaction is part of the Company’s overall growth strategy to provide the most flexible transportation programs for corporate and general consumers. Donlen’s technology platform is best-in-class and scalable to enable rapid volume expansion. Together with Donlen’s existing relationships, Hertz will now be able to significantly expand its fleet management capability to Europe and other international markets. VANCOUVER, BC (July 15, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports GE Capital Aviation Services Limited (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing unit of GE, announced July 14, 2011 the delivery of two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft leased to Pegasus Airlines under a purchase-and-leaseback transaction.
The aircraft were delivered to Pegasus in May and June and supplement the four new B737-800 aircraft GECAS purchased and leased back to the airline in April.
Low-cost carrier Pegasus is the second largest airline in Turkey serving nearly 50 domestic and international destinations.

VANCOUVER, BC (July 15, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports CIT Group Inc. (NYSE: CIT), a leading provider of financing to small businesses and middle market companies, today announced that it has given notice that it will prepay $500 million of its $3 billion senior secured first lien term loan on July 15, 2011.
Including this prepayment, CIT will have eliminated more than $10.5 billion of first lien and second lien debt since the beginning of 2010, including $5 billion of first lien debt, $3.5 billion of Series A Notes, and its entire $2.1 billion of Series B Notes.
The voluntary prepayment will be made with available holding company cash and will not be subject to any call premium.

VANCOUVER, BC (July 14, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports DVS, a small Canadian biotechnology company, has snagged almost $15-million from venture capital investors to enable it to start mass manufacturing and marketing a device that allows medical researchers to more easily identify diseased cells.
Scott Tanner, chief executive officer of Markham, Ont.-based DVS Sciences Inc., said after two years negotiating with venture capital firms, he needed to move to investors outside Canada.
DVS has arranged $14.6 million in financing from 5AM Ventures, Mohr Davidow Ventures and Pfizer Venture Investments – all based in the United States – along with Switzerland’s Roche Finance.
“I really wanted to raise the money in Canada,” Tanner said, “but we couldn’t find support for the company.”
Getting the financial backing was a huge step in commercializing the company’s CyTOF analytical instrument, Tanner said. The money will allow the company to ramp up its production to about 100 units per year of the $600,000 device, and establish a global sales and marketin gorganization based in an office in California. Currently the company has 27 employees, most of them in the Canadian head office.
The instrument uses mass spectrometry techniques to identify cells that may indicate early stages of diseases such as cancer. It provides a better “fingerprint” of disease cells than older techniques.
The equipment can be used for diagnosing diseases in individuals, in developing new drugs to fight diseases, and in helping clinical researchers choose people for test panels. Clients include universities, government bodies and pharmaceutical companies.

VANCOUVER, BC (July 14, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports DVS, a small Canadian biotechnology company, has snagged almost $15-million from venture capital investors to enable it to start mass manufacturing and marketing a device that allows medical researchers to more easily identify diseased cells.
Scott Tanner, chief executive officer of Markham, Ont.-based DVS Sciences Inc., said after two years negotiating with venture capital firms, he needed to move to investors outside Canada.
DVS has arranged $14.6 million in financing from 5AM Ventures, Mohr Davidow Ventures and Pfizer Venture Investments – all based in the United States – along with Switzerland’s Roche Finance.
“I really wanted to raise the money in Canada,” Tanner said, “but we couldn’t find support for the company.”
Getting the financial backing was a huge step in commercializing the company’s CyTOF analytical instrument, Tanner said. The money will allow the company to ramp up its production to about 100 units per year of the $600,000 device, and establish a global sales and marketin gorganization based in an office in California. Currently the company has 27 employees, most of them in the Canadian head office.
The instrument uses mass spectrometry techniques to identify cells that may indicate early stages of diseases such as cancer. It provides a better “fingerprint” of disease cells than older techniques.
The equipment can be used for diagnosing diseases in individuals, in developing new drugs to fight diseases, and in helping clinical researchers choose people for test panels. Clients include universities, government bodies and pharmaceutical companies.

VANCOUVER, BC (July 14, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports DVS, a small Canadian biotechnology company, has snagged almost $15-million from venture capital investors to enable it to start mass manufacturing and marketing a device that allows medical researchers to more easily identify diseased cells.
Scott Tanner, chief executive officer of Markham, Ont.-based DVS Sciences Inc., said after two years negotiating with venture capital firms, he needed to move to investors outside Canada.
DVS has arranged $14.6 million in financing from 5AM Ventures, Mohr Davidow Ventures and Pfizer Venture Investments – all based in the United States – along with Switzerland’s Roche Finance.
“I really wanted to raise the money in Canada,” Tanner said, “but we couldn’t find support for the company.”
Getting the financial backing was a huge step in commercializing the company’s CyTOF analytical instrument, Tanner said. The money will allow the company to ramp up its production to about 100 units per year of the $600,000 device, and establish a global sales and marketin gorganization based in an office in California. Currently the company has 27 employees, most of them in the Canadian head office.
The instrument uses mass spectrometry techniques to identify cells that may indicate early stages of diseases such as cancer. It provides a better “fingerprint” of disease cells than older techniques.
The equipment can be used for diagnosing diseases in individuals, in developing new drugs to fight diseases, and in helping clinical researchers choose people for test panels. Clients include universities, government bodies and pharmaceutical companies.

VANCOUVER, BC (July 14, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports With US traders reacting positively to a slew of U.S. economic data, stocks have shown a notable upward move over the course of early trading on Thursday July 14, 2011.
The major averages have seen some further upside in recent trading, rising to new highs for the young session. The Dow is currently up 79.32 points or 0.6 percent at 12,570.93, the Nasdaq is up 17.83 points or 0.6 percent at 2,814.75 and the S&P 500 is up 8.52 points or 0.7 percent at 1,326.24.
The early strength on Wall Street is partly due to the release of a report from the Commerce Department showing an unexpected increase in June retail sales.
The report showed that retail sales edged up by 0.1 percent in June compared to a revised 0.1 percent decrease in May. The modest increase surprised economists, who had expected sales to come in unchanged compared to the 0.2 percent drop originally reported for the previous month.
Excluding a 0.8 percent increase in auto sales, however, retail sales came in unchanged in June, while economists had expected ex-auto sales to inch up by 0.1 percent.
A Labor Department report showing a notable drop in weekly jobless claims has also generated some buying interest, with jobless claims falling to 405,000 in the week ended July 9th from the previous week’s revised figure of 427,000.
While jobless claims fell to their lowest level since mid-April, they remained above the key 400,000 level for the fourteenth consecutive week.
A separate report from the Labor Department showed a bigger than expected drop in producer prices due to a sharp drop in energy prices.
Meanwhile, traders seem to have shrugged off news that Moody’s placed its “AAA” debt rating on the U.S. under review for a possible downgrade. The agency attributed its decision to the ongoing bickering in the U.S. Congress over the issue of raising the nation’s debt ceiling before an August 2nd deadline.
On the corporate news front, J.P. Morgan (JPM) is up by 3.4 percent after reporting second quarter earnings of $1.27 per share, higher than $1.09 per share in the year-ago quarter. Net revenues rose 7 percent to $26.78 billion. Analysts estimated earnings of $1.21 per share on revenues of $25.13 billion.
Oil stocks have shown a strong upward move early on, driving the NYSE Arca Oil Index up by 1.5 percent. The strength in the sector comes amid an increase by the price of oil, which is moving higher for the third straight day.
Computer hardware, semiconductor, and banking stocks have also shown notable moves to the upside, moving higher along with most of the major sectors.
n overseas trading, stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region turned in a mixed performance on Thursday. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 Index fell by 0.3 percent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged up by 0.1 percent.
Meanwhile, the major European markets are all moving to the downside on the day. The German DAX Index is down by 0.3 percent, while the U.K.’s FTSE 100 Index and the French CAC 40 Index are both down by 0.4 percent.
In the bond market, treasuries are seeing moderate weakness in response to the economic data. As a result, the yield on the benchmark ten-year note, which moves opposite of its price, is up by 3 basis points at 2.921 percent.

VANCOUVER, BC (July 14, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports ConocoPhillips, the nation’s third-largest oil company, said Thursday July 14, 2011 that it will split itself into two separate publicly traded companies and its CEO and Chairman Jim Mulva plans to retire once the transaction is complete.
The breakup would create the largest independent refiner in the world, a prominent analyst said.
Its shares jumped $4.35, or 5.9 percent, to $78.75 in morning trading.
“We have concluded that two independent companies focused on their respective industries will be better positioned to pursue their individually focused business strategies,” Mulva said in a statement.
Conoco said its board has approved separating its refining and marketing and exploration and production businesses by spinning off the refining and marketing segment to shareholders in a tax-free transaction.
Conoco’s refineries produced 2.3 million barrels per day of gasoline, diesel and other petroleum products in the first three months of the year. As a stand-alone business, it will be the largest independent refiner in the world, Oppenheimer & Co. analyst Fadel Gheit said.
“This is so positive for them,” Gheit said. “Everyone should stick to one business.”
Instead of selling the refining assets, a spin-off creates a new business that will attract a different class of investors that will be better suited for the ups and downs that come with refining crude, Gheit said.
Refineries, which must buy oil to make gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, routinely struggle to pass on high crude costs to consumers. The industry was hammered by thin profit margins following record high oil prices in 2008, and many companies were forced to idle or sell underperforming refineries.
Conoco has said for the past few years that it plans to scale back its refining business, but until now it had balked at a spin off. Gheit said that company officials likely changed their mind after noticing how much a refinery spinoff was benefiting their Houston neighbor, Marathon Oil. Marathon’s stock jumped 30 percent after it announced the split in January.
On July 1, Marathon Petroleum Corp., the refining company, began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the “MPC” ticker symbol. Marathon Oil Corp. kept its ticker symbol of “MRO.”
The Conoco split, which is expected to be completed during the first half of next year, will leave Conoco as an exploration and production company.
Mulva, 64, will lead the separation efforts, but plans to retire once the split is complete.
Conoco said its separation plans do not require a shareholder vote. It expects to provide further details on the transaction “as they are determined over the next several months.”
The Houston-based company has about 29,600 employees. Conoco had $160 billion of assets and $226 billion of annualized revenue as of March 31.
