VANCOUVER, BC (September 12, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Fibrek Inc. (TSX:FBK) announced Friday Sept 9 that it is extending the planned two-week shutdown of its Fairmont Mill in West Virginia to almost a month, citing current conditions in the RBK pulp market.
The shutdown had been scheduled for Sept. 12 for the replacement of two decker drums and annual maintenance.
“Originally planned for two weeks, it will be extended for two additional weeks in order to respond to current market conditions,” the company said in a release.
Fibrek said the RBK pulp market continues to be negatively impacted by wastepaper prices, which it said remain very high.
The four-week shutdown will remove about 15,000 tonnes of RBK pulp from production.
The Fairmont Mill produces approximately 215,000 tonnes of RBK pulp annually.
Fibrek, with about 500 employees, produces virgin and recycled kraft pulp at three mills located in Saint-Felicien, Que., Fairmont, W.Va., and in Menominee, Mich., with a combined annual production capacity of 760,000 tonnes.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 12, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Mosaid Technologies Inc. (TSX:MSD) said September 12 it is exploring a “broad range of alternatives” to the $480-million hostile takeover bid by Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN) and is in discussions with several other parties.
“Mosaid and its financial advisers have been approached by and have initiated contact with several third parties with respect to these prospective alternatives,” Mosaid chairman Carl Schlachte said in a release Monday.
“Discussions are ongoing with these parties and discussions with additional parties are anticipated soon. Based on those discussions, it is anticipated that some or all of these parties will be given access to Mosaid’s data room later this week.”
Schlachte added that at this point “nothing is off the table and everything is up for consideration.”
“Mosaid has a number of attractive paths forward. It will take time, however, to determine which option might be best for Mosaid and our shareholders and to then execute that option.”
The statement was the latest in an escalating battle between the two companies, which on Friday had Wi-LAN questioning the possible negative financial impact of a new family of patents acquired by Mosaid.
At that time, Wi-LAN said that Mosaid’s recent deal was “not attractive from a financial or business perspective” and that the company hadn’t provided enough information about its full financial impact.
On Monday, Mosaid called those statements from Wi-LAN misleading and inaccurate and encouraged its shareholders review the company’s circular.
Patent company Wi-LAN, based in Ottawa, made its initial unsolicited cash offer of $38 per share for Mosaid in August. It already owns 1.6 per cent of Mosaid’s shares.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 12, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Americas Petrogas (TSXV:BOE) and venture partner Gran Tierra Energy (TSX:GTE) have made a “significant discovery of oil” in the first of three exploration wells on the Rinconada Norte block in the Neuquen Basin of Argentina.
Americas Petrogas said the RN x-1004 well flowed a test rate of approximately 944 barrels per day of oil and 13,360 cubic metres per day of gas (79 barrels of oil equivalent) for a total of about 1,023 barrels of oil equivalent per day from two intervals tested separately in the Precuyo formation, the company said in a statement Monday.
The oil is 29.6 degrees API — sweet light crude similar to crude oil produced from the equivalent formation in Americas Petrogas’ Medanito Sur block.
The company said the well has been completed and the service rig is now moving on to the next two wells, which have already been drilled and logged and had production casing installed.
“We are very excited about this new find on the first well of this three-well exploratory drilling program because of the strong production rates and possibility of significant commercial reserves,” said Guimar Vaca Coca, managing director of Americas Petrogas Argentina S.A..
“We are also optimistic about the prospects for the remaining two wells.”
Americas Petrogas’ wholly-owned Argentina subsidiary, Americas Petrogas Argentina S.A., is the operator of the Rinconada Norte block, holding a 65 per cent working interest, while Gran Tierra Energy, through its Argentina subsidiary, holds a 35 per cent working interest.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 12, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Scotiabank (TSX:BNS) is buying nearly 20 per cent of a Chinese bank in a deal worth about $719 million, expanding the Canadian bank’s presence in a key market in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
The Canadian bank said Friday Sept 9 that it had been chosen as the winning bidder to acquire 19.99 per cent of the Bank of Guangzhou (BGZ), a closely held Chinese concern that is primarily government-owned.
Though Scotiabank’s international operations have been focused on the Latin America, the Caribbean and South America, it has also been active in Asia.
Brian Porter, Scotiabank’s head of international banking, said Friday that the bank has been doing business in China for 29 years and is the largest Canadian bank in the country.
“China has a strong emerging middle class and growing purchasing power and this investment puts Scotiabank in a solid position to expand on our existing platform and help develop the retail banking and wealth management sector,” Porter said.
Scotiabank also holds a 14.8 per cent stake in Bank of Xi’an, which will increase to 18.1 per cent pending regulatory approval. The Canadian bank has said that once complete, it will bring its total investment in the bank to $162 million.
The increased ownership will increase Scotiabank representatives on the bank’s board to two from one and also increase Scotiabank’s representation within the senior management team to three from one.
Scotiabank first acquired a stake in the operation, based in the capital of Shaanxi province in western China, in 2004 and has said that it looks to eventually increase its holdings to approximately 20 per cent.
China limits foreign bank investments in its banks to 20 per cent.
BMO analyst John Reucassel noted the deal would likely add modestly to Scotiabank’s earnings in 2012. He didn’t expect Scotiabank to issue any new shares to pay for the deal.
“These investments are consistent with the bank’s strategy and consistent with its historical approach to international investments,” Reucassel wrote in a note to clients.
“These investments also highlight the unique nature of Scotiabank relative to other Canadian banks with its international banking business, which accounts for roughly 27 per cent of bank earnings and should be a primary driver of growth over the next few years.”
RBC analyst Andre-Philippe Hardy said the impact of the deal would be neutral for the Canadian bank.
“While the transaction is expected to be accretive to earnings in 2012, we do not believe Scotiabank’s stock will be impacted by this announcement,” Hardy wrote in a report, noting that it was relatively small compared with the bank’s earnings.
BGZ operates in a fast growing region of southern China, with an expanding middle class that has benefited from China’s growing trade with the world. The Chinese bank has a growing retail customer base and also focuses on providing corporate and treasury services to companies in China.
Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province, which surrounds Hong Kong, and is home to a large manufacturing base.
With assets of $24 billion and customer deposits of $16 billion at the end of June, BGZ is the 29th largest bank in mainland China. Scotiabank has assets of $567 billion, placing it third among Canadian banks in terms of assets.
BGZ has a network of 84 branches and offices centred in Guangzhou and offers both retail banking as well as corporate and treasury services to companies in China.
The investment, which remains subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in December and will boost profits in 2012, the bank said in a statement.
Last month, Scotiabank reported its third-quarter profits jumped 18 per cent to $1.29 billion, helped by recent acquisitions and strength in its international division, which includes branches in Mexico, Chile, India, Australia and Japan as well as China.
Scotiabank’s international operations earned $350 million in the quarter, up from $275 million in the same quarter in 2010.
Scotiabank has more than 70,000 employees and operates around the world.
Shares in the bank closed down $1.18 at $51.63 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Friday.

This kind of offering could make a splash right when the iPhone 5 drops, but could it really draw a significant amount of customers away from the big two?
CNET quotes an analyst who thinks the unlimited offering, if accurately predicted, would only last for a brief time.
“There’s a good chance they will use this to pull subscribers from AT&T and Verizon,” said Maribel Lopez, an analyst at Lopez Research. “After a certain time, they won’t offer the unlimited option any more.”

VANCOUVER, BC (September 11, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports the iPhone 5 rumor bypasses the “if” it’s going to launch on Sprint question and jumps right ahead to specifics of that launch.
According to sources “familiar with the matter” as quoted in Bloomberg, the iPhone 5 will most definitely be arriving on Sprint. And when it does, it will come with an unlimited data plan.
This move would make Sprint the only wireless carrier to offer the iPhone with an unlimited, flat-rate data plan. Carriers like AT&T used to offer the unlimited plan, but have since moved to a tiered data structure.
The sources also confirmed the mid-October release date, the most widely accepted rumor nowadays regarding the upcoming device. To prepare for the iPhone 5 launch, they said, Sprint has postponed the debut of a rival 4G phone that was supposed to launch this month.
It’s pretty easy to understand why Sprint would take this step. They are in 3rd place among wireless carriers, a good deal behind AT&T and Verizon. This kind of offering could make a splash right when the iPhone 5 drops, but could it really draw a significant amount of customers away from the big two?
CNET quotes an analyst who thinks the unlimited offering, if accurately predicted, would only last for a brief time.
“There’s a good chance they will use this to pull subscribers from AT&T and Verizon,” said Maribel Lopez, an analyst at Lopez Research. “After a certain time, they won’t offer the unlimited option any more.”
It remains to be seen if that would actually be an effective strategy.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 9, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Loyalist Group Limited (TSXV:LOY.V) announced Sept 9, 2011 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire all of the issued and outstanding securities of Western Town College (“WTC”), located in Vancouver, British Columbia, further to its Letter of Intent previously announced on August 5, 2011.
Under the terms of the definitive agreement, Loyalist will purchase WTC for an aggregate purchase price of $1,300,000 satisfied as to:
(a) $850,000 to be paid in cash to WTC as follows:
(i) $200,000 on the closing date;
(ii) $150,000 on each of the 4th, 11th and 18th month anniversaries of the closing date; and
(iii) $200,000 on the 24th month anniversary of the closing date.
(b) The balance, being $450,000, will be satisfied through the issuance of 2,250,000 common shares in the capital of the Corporation at a deemed price of $0.20 per share. The issuance of the common shares is subject to regulatory approval, and the common shares will be subject to a statutory four-month hold period from the closing date.
Andrew Ryu, CEO of Loyalist Group Limited commented, “This agreement provides for reduced dilution to shareholders and deems a higher price per LOY share than what we first contemplated in August, which is good news for our shareholders.”
WTC is in the business of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), Teacher Training, Business, and TOEFL courses, Interpretation/Translation classes, including, for the more advanced students, a range of diploma programs which will help prepare them for future careers. Current enrolment stands at over 350 students.
Loyalist will pay the cash portion of the purchase price from currently available funds. Closing of the WTC acquisition is scheduled for October 7, 2011, or such other date upon which the parties may mutually agree.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 9, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Loyalist Group Limited (TSXV:LOY.V) announced Sept 9, 2011 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire all of the issued and outstanding securities of Western Town College (“WTC”), located in Vancouver, British Columbia, further to its Letter of Intent previously announced on August 5, 2011.
Under the terms of the definitive agreement, Loyalist will purchase WTC for an aggregate purchase price of $1,300,000 satisfied as to:
(a) $850,000 to be paid in cash to WTC as follows:
(i) $200,000 on the closing date;
(ii) $150,000 on each of the 4th, 11th and 18th month anniversaries of the closing date; and
(iii) $200,000 on the 24th month anniversary of the closing date.
(b) The balance, being $450,000, will be satisfied through the issuance of 2,250,000 common shares in the capital of the Corporation at a deemed price of $0.20 per share. The issuance of the common shares is subject to regulatory approval, and the common shares will be subject to a statutory four-month hold period from the closing date.
Andrew Ryu, CEO of Loyalist Group Limited commented, “This agreement provides for reduced dilution to shareholders and deems a higher price per LOY share than what we first contemplated in August, which is good news for our shareholders.”
WTC is in the business of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), Teacher Training, Business, and TOEFL courses, Interpretation/Translation classes, including, for the more advanced students, a range of diploma programs which will help prepare them for future careers. Current enrolment stands at over 350 students.
Loyalist will pay the cash portion of the purchase price from currently available funds. Closing of the WTC acquisition is scheduled for October 7, 2011, or such other date upon which the parties may mutually agree.

Bay Street stocks are poised for a lower open Friday amid falling energy prices and weak cues from the global equity markets. Global stocks moved lower after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke gave no indications of new stimulus measures to boost the sagging U.S. economy.
Meanwhile, Canada reported that unemployment ticked up 0.10 percent to 7.30 percent in August. On Thursday, the S&P/TSX Composite Index shed 36.61 points or 0.29 percent to 12,683.96.
The price of crude oil slipped back below $88 amid concerns over demand growth. However, slowing inflation in China supported crude prices. China’s annual inflation rose 6.2 percent in August, cooling from a 37-month high of 6.5 percent in July that raised hopes China may stop hiking interest rates and allow faster economic growth. Crude for October shed $1.20 to $87.85 a barrel.
The price of gold was paring previous session’s gains as traders turned attention to G7 meeting that starts today. Gold for December wad down $13.60 to $1,843.90 an ounce.
In corporate news from Canada, Scotiabank said it is expanding its presence in China, after it was chosen as the winning bidder to buy a 19.99 percent stake in the Bank of Guangzhou for around C$719 million.
Sports apparel retailer Lululemon Athletica reported a much improved second quarter net income of $38.4 million or $0.26 per share, compared to $21.7 million or $0.15 per share in the year ago period. Analysts were expecting the company to report earnings of $0.23 per share this quarter.
Beach accessories retailer Groupe Bikini Village reported a lower second quarter profit at C$0.9 million or C$ 0.47 per share compared to C$1.3 million or C$0.98 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Contract drilling services provider Major Drilling said it would acquire Bradley Group Limited, a family-owned drilling company based in Rouyn Noranda, Quebec (Canada), for about $80 million.
International gold miner Barrick Gold Corp. said it sold its 70 percent interest in the Pinson Mine, located in Humboldt County, Nevada, to Atna Resources Ltd. for $15 million and 15 million common shares of Atna which are valued at about C$11.4 million.
Pharmaceutical company Patheon Inc. reported a narrower third quarter net loss of $0.7 million or $0.006 per share, compared to last year’s loss of $3.0 million or $0.023 per share.
In economic news, Statistics Canada said the nation’s unemployment rate edged up 0.1 percentage points to 7.3 percent. Canadian employment was little changed for a second straight month in August, as job losses in construction were offset by added payrolls in the health care sector.

Pharmaceutical company Patheon Inc. reported a narrower third quarter net loss of $0.7 million or $0.006 per share, compared to last year’s loss of $3.0 million or $0.023 per share.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 9, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports TSX Poised For Lower Open As Commodities Retreat
Bay Street stocks are poised for a lower open Friday amid falling energy prices and weak cues from the global equity markets. Global stocks moved lower after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke gave no indications of new stimulus measures to boost the sagging U.S. economy.
Meanwhile, Canada reported that unemployment ticked up 0.10 percent to 7.30 percent in August. On Thursday, the S&P/TSX Composite Index shed 36.61 points or 0.29 percent to 12,683.96.
The price of crude oil slipped back below $88 amid concerns over demand growth. However, slowing inflation in China supported crude prices. China’s annual inflation rose 6.2 percent in August, cooling from a 37-month high of 6.5 percent in July that raised hopes China may stop hiking interest rates and allow faster economic growth. Crude for October shed $1.20 to $87.85 a barrel.
The price of gold was paring previous session’s gains as traders turned attention to G7 meeting that starts today. Gold for December wad down $13.60 to $1,843.90 an ounce.
In corporate news from Canada, Scotiabank said it is expanding its presence in China, after it was chosen as the winning bidder to buy a 19.99 percent stake in the Bank of Guangzhou for around C$719 million.
Sports apparel retailer Lululemon Athletica reported a much improved second quarter net income of $38.4 million or $0.26 per share, compared to $21.7 million or $0.15 per share in the year ago period. Analysts were expecting the company to report earnings of $0.23 per share this quarter.
Beach accessories retailer Groupe Bikini Village reported a lower second quarter profit at C$0.9 million or C$ 0.47 per share compared to C$1.3 million or C$0.98 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Contract drilling services provider Major Drilling said it would acquire Bradley Group Limited, a family-owned drilling company based in Rouyn Noranda, Quebec (Canada), for about $80 million.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 9, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Stocks have moved sharply lower in early trading on Friday, succumbing to broad based selling pressure. The major averages have fallen firmly into negative territory, extending the notable downward moves seen over the course of the previous session.
Currently, the major averages are posting steep losses, just off their lows for the young session. The Dow is down 200.52 points or 1.8 percent at 11,095.29, the Nasdaq is down 30.06 points or 1.2 percent at 2,499.08 and the S&P 500 is down 16.25 points or 1.4 percent at 1,169.65.
The early sell-off on Wall Street comes as traders express skepticism about the economic impact of the proposals that President Barack Obama outlined in his highly anticipated jobs speech before a joint session of Congress Thursday evening.
Obama outlined a $447 billion package of tax cuts and new spending that includes a reduction in payroll taxes for both workers and small businesses, an extension of unemployment benefits, and an increase in spending on infrastructure projects.
Republican reaction to the remarks has been lukewarm at best, with some lawmakers criticizing Obama for rehashing old ideas that have not stimulated the economy.
Steel stocks are seeing considerable weakness amid concerns about the outlook for demand, with the NYSE Arca Steel Index sliding by 3.1 percent. Arcelor Mittal (MT) and Mechel (MTL) are turning in two of the sector’s worst performances.
Notable weakness has also emerged among housing stocks, as reflected by the 2.2 percent loss being posted by the Philadelphia Housing Sector Index. Banking, energy, and utilities stocks are also under significant selling pressure, moving lower along with most of the major sectors.
Meanwhile, airline stocks are bucking the downtrend by the broader markets, resulting in a 1 percent gain by the NYSE Arca Airline Index. United Continental (UAL) is leading the sector higher despite reporting a 2.7 percent drop in August traffic.
Among individual stocks, shares of Texas Instruments (TXN) is trading higher even though the chip maker lowered its third quarter earnings and revenue guidance, citing broadly lower demand across a wide range of products, markets and customers.
Texas Instruments said it now expects earnings of $0.56 to $0.60 per share on revenues of $3.23 to $3.37 billion. The company previously forecast earnings of $0.55 to $0.65 per share on revenues of $3.40 to $3.70 billion.
In overseas trading, stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region moved mostly lower during trading on Friday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index fell by 0.6 percent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged down by 0.2 percent.
The major European markets are also moving to the downside on the day. While the U.K.’s FTSE 100 Index is down by 2.2 percent, the French CAC 40 Index and the German DAX Index are both down by 3.2 percent.
In the bond market, treasuries are seeing modest strength amid the weakness on Wall Street. Subsequently, the yield on the benchmark ten-year note, which moves opposite of its price, is down by 2.6 basis points at 1.96 percent.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 9, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Stocks have moved sharply lower in early trading on Friday, succumbing to broad based selling pressure. The major averages have fallen firmly into negative territory, extending the notable downward moves seen over the course of the previous session.
Currently, the major averages are posting steep losses, just off their lows for the young session. The Dow is down 200.52 points or 1.8 percent at 11,095.29, the Nasdaq is down 30.06 points or 1.2 percent at 2,499.08 and the S&P 500 is down 16.25 points or 1.4 percent at 1,169.65.
The early sell-off on Wall Street comes as traders express skepticism about the economic impact of the proposals that President Barack Obama outlined in his highly anticipated jobs speech before a joint session of Congress Thursday evening.
Obama outlined a $447 billion package of tax cuts and new spending that includes a reduction in payroll taxes for both workers and small businesses, an extension of unemployment benefits, and an increase in spending on infrastructure projects.
Republican reaction to the remarks has been lukewarm at best, with some lawmakers criticizing Obama for rehashing old ideas that have not stimulated the economy.
Steel stocks are seeing considerable weakness amid concerns about the outlook for demand, with the NYSE Arca Steel Index sliding by 3.1 percent. Arcelor Mittal (MT) and Mechel (MTL) are turning in two of the sector’s worst performances.
Notable weakness has also emerged among housing stocks, as reflected by the 2.2 percent loss being posted by the Philadelphia Housing Sector Index. Banking, energy, and utilities stocks are also under significant selling pressure, moving lower along with most of the major sectors.
Meanwhile, airline stocks are bucking the downtrend by the broader markets, resulting in a 1 percent gain by the NYSE Arca Airline Index. United Continental (UAL) is leading the sector higher despite reporting a 2.7 percent drop in August traffic.
Among individual stocks, shares of Texas Instruments (TXN) is trading higher even though the chip maker lowered its third quarter earnings and revenue guidance, citing broadly lower demand across a wide range of products, markets and customers.
Texas Instruments said it now expects earnings of $0.56 to $0.60 per share on revenues of $3.23 to $3.37 billion. The company previously forecast earnings of $0.55 to $0.65 per share on revenues of $3.40 to $3.70 billion.
In overseas trading, stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region moved mostly lower during trading on Friday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index fell by 0.6 percent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged down by 0.2 percent.
The major European markets are also moving to the downside on the day. While the U.K.’s FTSE 100 Index is down by 2.2 percent, the French CAC 40 Index and the German DAX Index are both down by 3.2 percent.
In the bond market, treasuries are seeing modest strength amid the weakness on Wall Street. Subsequently, the yield on the benchmark ten-year note, which moves opposite of its price, is down by 2.6 basis points at 1.96 percent.

(TSX:WIN) said Friday September 9 it’s evaluating its $480-million hostile takeover bid for rival patent company Mosaid Technologies Inc. due to the possible negative financial impact of a new family of patents that Mosaid has acquired.
Wi-LAN said that Mosaid’s recent deal is “not attractive from a financial or business perspective” and the company hasn’t provided enough information about its full financial impact.
The 2,000 patents and patent applications acquired by Mosaid last week were originally filed by mobile phone giant Nokia. Under the deal, Mosaid is buying Luxembourg-based Core Wireless Licensing, which has a portfolio of 400 Nokia patent families. Mosaid will pay for the acquisition through royalties from future licensing and enforcement revenues.
“Without further disclosure and clarity about the full financial impact of the Core Wireless agreement, the amount of cash available to be paid to Mosaid shareholders by any potential acquirer, including Wi-LAN, is likely to be materially and negatively affected,” Wi-LAN said in a news release.
Wi-LAN said it believes this patent portfolio may already be licensed to a number of major parties, which would limit future revenue potential of the portfolio.
“Mosaid has not made any public disclosure about the extent to which this portfolio has already been licensed.”
Wi-LAN also expressed disappointment that Mosaid’s board of directors has recommended its shareholders reject its offer of $38 per share.
Mosaid (TSX:MSD) has said the hostile bid doesn’t reflect its value especially its recent patent deal.
Over the life of the patents, revenues from licensing, enforcing and monetizing the newly acquired patents in 49 countries will surpass Mosaid’s total revenue of about $1 billion since it was formed in 1975, chief executive John Lindgren said recently. The patents have remaining lives of about 10 years on average.

Mosaid (TSX:MSD) has said the hostile bid doesn’t reflect its value especially its recent patent deal.
Over the life of the patents, revenues from licensing, enforcing and monetizing the newly acquired patents in 49 countries will surpass Mosaid’s total revenue of about $1 billion since it was formed in 1975, chief executive John Lindgren said recently. The patents have remaining lives of about 10 years on average.
