VANCOUVER, BC (September 7, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Major Drilling Group International Inc. (TSX:MDI) shares were up sharply on Wednesday September 7 in the first trading since the New Brunswick company announced stronger financial results in its latest quarter.
Major Drilling shares were up 84 cents to $12.38 on the Toronto Stock Exchange at mid-morning, a gain of seven per cent from the previous close. They had been as high as $12.99 earlier in the session.
The Moncton-based mining driller said Tuesday its first-quarter profits rose to $17.9 million, or 25 cents a share. That’s up from a profit of $5.1 million, or seven cents per share, a year earlier.
Revenue increased to $164.2 million from $109.5 million.
“Activity levels continue to be robust in every region,” said president and CEO Francis McGuire in a release. “We continue to see inquiries from all categories of customers.”
Major Drilling has operations in the Americas, Africa and Asia.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 7, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Transcontinental Inc. (TSX:TCL.A) said sEPTEMBER 7, 2011 its net income decreased by 63 per cent to $10.6 million in the third quarter due to the discontinuance of its Mexican printing operations which are about to be transferred to Quad/Graphics.
The Canadian media giant said it earned 13 cents per share for the period ended July 31, down from 36 cents a year earlier when profits totalled $28.9 million.
Excluding unusual items and discontinued operations, adjusted net income decreased two per cent to $32.8 million or 40 cents per share. That compared to $33.4 million or 41 cents per share in the prior period.
The Montreal-based company was expected to earn 44 cents per share in adjusted income on $511 million of revenue in the third quarter, according to analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.
Transcontinental said revenues grew by two per cent to $492.7 million from $481.3 million a year ago.
The increase was primarily due to a number of new contracts, particularly the expanded relationship with The Globe and Mail.
Excluding acquisitions, divestitures and closures, organic revenues increased two per cent, driven mainly by the printing sector.
Chief executive Francois Olivier said Transcontinental generated organic revenue and profit growth for the sixth consecutive quarter even though the industry faces increasing competition.
He said the company is strengthening its our existing assets by making strategic acquisitions, divesting less core businesses and rationalizing certain activities.
It recently announced plans to eliminate 30 jobs after it transfers equipment and consolidates production at a Montreal printing plant in late September.
Two production teams will be combined when the operation is consolidated, eliminating nearly 10 per cent of the total workforce of 335.
It is also exchanging assets with Quad/Graphics’ former Quebecor World assets in Canada, for its Mexican and U.S. book printing export business.
The Mexican and book transaction is expected to close shortly while the deal for Quad’s Canadian operations is expected to close in the fall.
Transcontinental is the largest printer in Canada and Mexico, and fourth-largest in North America. It is the leading publisher of consumer magazines and French-language educational resources and community newspapers in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
It has 10,500 employees in Canada, the United States and Mexico, and reported revenues of C$2.1 billion in 2010.
On the Toronto Stock Exchange, Transcontinental shares fell 88 cents, or 6.72 per cent, at $12.21 in morning trading.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 7, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Transcontinental Inc. (TSX:TCL.A) said sEPTEMBER 7, 2011 its net income decreased by 63 per cent to $10.6 million in the third quarter due to the discontinuance of its Mexican printing operations which are about to be transferred to Quad/Graphics.
The Canadian media giant said it earned 13 cents per share for the period ended July 31, down from 36 cents a year earlier when profits totalled $28.9 million.
Excluding unusual items and discontinued operations, adjusted net income decreased two per cent to $32.8 million or 40 cents per share. That compared to $33.4 million or 41 cents per share in the prior period.
The Montreal-based company was expected to earn 44 cents per share in adjusted income on $511 million of revenue in the third quarter, according to analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.
Transcontinental said revenues grew by two per cent to $492.7 million from $481.3 million a year ago.
The increase was primarily due to a number of new contracts, particularly the expanded relationship with The Globe and Mail.
Excluding acquisitions, divestitures and closures, organic revenues increased two per cent, driven mainly by the printing sector.
Chief executive Francois Olivier said Transcontinental generated organic revenue and profit growth for the sixth consecutive quarter even though the industry faces increasing competition.
He said the company is strengthening its our existing assets by making strategic acquisitions, divesting less core businesses and rationalizing certain activities.
It recently announced plans to eliminate 30 jobs after it transfers equipment and consolidates production at a Montreal printing plant in late September.
Two production teams will be combined when the operation is consolidated, eliminating nearly 10 per cent of the total workforce of 335.
It is also exchanging assets with Quad/Graphics’ former Quebecor World assets in Canada, for its Mexican and U.S. book printing export business.
The Mexican and book transaction is expected to close shortly while the deal for Quad’s Canadian operations is expected to close in the fall.
Transcontinental is the largest printer in Canada and Mexico, and fourth-largest in North America. It is the leading publisher of consumer magazines and French-language educational resources and community newspapers in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
It has 10,500 employees in Canada, the United States and Mexico, and reported revenues of C$2.1 billion in 2010.
On the Toronto Stock Exchange, Transcontinental shares fell 88 cents, or 6.72 per cent, at $12.21 in morning trading.

Mortgage Lending News: 43 die as Russian jet carrying hockey team crashes after takeoff
VANCOUVER, BC (September 7, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports a Russian jet carrying a top hockey team crashed into a river bank Wednesday while taking off in western Russia, killing 43 people and leaving two others critically injured, officials said.
The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said the Yak-42 crashed in sunny weather immediately after leaving an airport near the city of Yaroslavl, on the Volga River, 240 kilometres northeast of Moscow.
It said the plane was carrying the Lokomotiv hockey team from Yaroslavl to Minsk, the capital of Belarus, where it was to play Thursday against Dynamo Minsk in the opening game of the season of the Kontinental Hockey League. The ministry said it was carrying 45 people, including 37 passengers and eight crew, and two people survived the crash.
It wasn’t immediately clear which players were on board the Yak-42. Officials said player Alexander Galimov survived the crash along with a crewmember.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin immediately sent his transport minister to the site, 15 kilometres east of Yaroslavl.
The plane that crashed was relatively new, built in 1993, and belonged to a small Yak Service company.
Lokomotiv Yaroslavl is a leading force in Russian hockey and came third in the KHL last year. The team’s coach is Canadian Brad McCrimmon, who took over in May. A native of Saskatchewan, the 52-year-old was most recently an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings, and played 18 years in the NHL for Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, Hartford and Phoenix.
The Russian team also featured several top European players and former NHL stars, including Slovakian forward and national team captain Pavol Demitra, who played in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks.
Other top names include forward Josef Vasicek of the Czech Republic, Czech defenceman Karel Rachunek, Russian defencemen Ruslan Salei and Karlis Skrastins, and Swedish goalie Stefan Liv.
The KHL is an international club league that pits together teams from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Slovakia. Lokomotiv was a three-time Russian League champion in 1997, 2002-2003. It took bronze last season.
Swarms of police and rescue crews rushed to Tunoshna, a picturesque village with a blue-domed church on the banks of the Volga River.
One resident, Irina Pryakhova, saw the plane going down.
“It was wobbling in flight, it was clear that something was wrong,” she said. “It went down behind the trees and there was a bang and a plume of smoke.”
She said rescuers pulled victims’ bodies out of the Volga River. “I saw them pulling bodies to the shore, some still in their seats with seatbelts on,” Pryakhova said.
Former Montreal Canadien Brent Sopel, who is now playing in Russia, tweeted shortly after the crash: “In shock. Prayers out to all of the KHL families.”
A cup match between hockey teams Salavat Yulaev and Atlant in the central Russian city of Ufa was called off midway after news of the crash was announced by KHL head Alexander Medvedev.
Russian television broadcast images of an empty arena in Ufa as grief-stricken fans abandoned the stadium.
“We will do our best to ensure that hockey in Yaroslavl does not die, and that it continues to live for the people that were on that plane,” said Russian Ice Hockey Federation president Vladislav Tretyak.
The short- and medium-range Yak-42 has been in service since 1980 and dozens are still in service with Russian and other airlines.
In June, another Russian passenger jet crashed in the northwestern city of Petrozavodsk, killing 47 people. The crash of that Tu-134 plane has been blamed on pilot error.
President Dmitry Medvedev has announced plans to take aging Soviet-built planes out of service starting next year.

VANCOUVER, BC (September 6, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports Sept. 6, 2011 that a reverse mortgage can be one of the best ways to weather a financial storm at the end of life for senior citizens. Reverse mortgages are also one of the very few ways that older Americans can use a significant portion of the equity they have in their homes without moving or facing new drains on cash flow.
Reverse mortgages, however, come with many caveats. They are complex and expensive, and they are undergoing changes in response to the credit crisis and the drop in home values.
Get the picture. Before you begin the process, be sure you understand how a reverse mortgage works. The mortgages are available only to people over age 62, and while there are no monthly loan payments to the lender, there may be monthly servicing fees. The loan and interest must be repaid when the owners move, die, or sell the property.
Pick your type. By far the most popular reverse mortgage is the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage, insured by the federal government and offered through private banks. There are also public sector loans offered by state and local governments, often aimed at low- or moderate-income homeowners for specific purposes, and proprietary loans backed by the companies that offer them.
Calculate costs. Count on an origination fee equal to 2% of the loan value and a 2% insurance fee, plus other closing costs. Altogether, your costs may add up to 5% of the home’s value. Fees can be folded into the loan amount.
A new option. In 2010, the Federal Housing Administration introduced the Saver loan, which has much smaller upfront costs. In exchange, the amount that can be borrowed is up to 18% less than with a traditional reverse mortgage and the interest rate may be a quarter to half a percentage point higher.
The payoff. How much you can borrow is a function of your age, your home’s value and current interest rates. Generally, the more valuable your home is and the older you are, the more you can borrow.
Rate reversal. In most cases, interest rates on reverse mortgages are higher than what you’d pay for a traditional mortgage and interest costs begin accruing as soon as you take the money.
Know your loan. For years, adjustable-rate reverse mortgages were the most popular and they allowed borrowers to choose whether they wanted a lump sum, a monthly payment or have a line of credit, which could increase over time. But today, fixed-rate reverse loans make up about 70% of the business and proceeds from fixed rate loans must be taken as a lump sum.
Best use. Generally, funds from a reverse mortgage should be used for needed home improvements, to supplement your income or perhaps to keep a home out of foreclosure. Lump sum payments must be managed carefully so they don’t slip away.
Figuring it out. Because of the costs and risks associated with these loans, they should be a last line of financial defense, so proceed with caution.
Help is available. Applicants for HECMs must first meet with housing counselors from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, who will walk you through the process and help you figure out how much you can borrow.
Other options. Depending on your circumstances, you may also want to consider a regular home-equity loan, like a home equity line of credit, or selling your home to your children or other relative and leasing it back. If money is very tight, many state governments have special programs to help seniors pay property taxes or make needed repairs.
What not to do. Because this may be your last major asset, use the money carefully. Don’t waste it on a hot tub or use funds to play the stock market.
Don’t pay fees up front. Loan fees should be included in the loan balance and paid when the loan is settled. Don’t let someone tell you that fees must be paid only after you have the cash in hand.
Don’t pay off a traditional mortgage. Unless you’re trying to avoid foreclosure, look for another way to handle your current mortgage. The cost of the reverse mortgage will likely be much higher paying off your existing balance.
Don’t buy an annuity. Instead, pick a reverse mortgage that allows you to get a monthly payment, which essentially functions as an annuity.

AIG Capital, the unit within AIG that holds Los Angeles-based ILFC, “must dispose of more than 50% by value of its interest in us within two years after the completion of this offering,” ILFC said in the SEC filing. “In addition … AIG Capital intends to dispose of at least 80% by value of its interest in us within three years after the completion of this offering. VANCOUVER, BC (September 6, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports GAircraft leasing giant International Lease Finance Corp. (ILFC) filed a registration statement Friday with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to launch an initial public offering that will pave the way for it to largely break away from troubled parent American International Group.

VANCOUVER, BC (August 8, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports The European markets are notably lower in afternoon trading Monday, as markets across the globe fell in response to Standard and Poor’s downgrading of the U.S. credit rating. The ratings agency cut U.S. sovereign credit rating by one notch to ‘AA+’ from ‘AAA’ with a negative outlook, taking into account the political risks and increasing debt-burden. Crude is falling, while safe-haven gold is gaining strength.
Meanwhile, the European Central Bank said it would implement its securities markets program, primarily aimed at purchasing Italian and Spanish bonds in a bid to bring down the mounting yields on these bonds. The group of seven industrial powers also have pledged coordinated action to ensure liquidity and to support financial market functioning.
The Euro Stoxx 50 index of eurozone bluechip stocks is losing 1.10 percent, while the Stoxx Europe 50 index, which includes some major U.K. companies, is declining 1.60 percent.
The German DAX is declining 2.50 percent and the French CAC 40 is falling 1.36 percent. UK’s FTSE 100 is dropping 1.92 percent and Switzerland’s SMI is losing 3.52 percent.
Among the DAX components, ThyssenKrupp is plunging 7.3 percent. Cheuvreux reduced the steel giant to “Outperform” from “Selected List.”
BMW is falling 6.8 percent. Volkswagen, Daimler and truckmaker MAN are losing between 6.8 percent and 4.2 percent. Morgan Stanley cut its price target for the three carmakers.
Commerzbank is declining 6.6 percent and Deutsche Bank is dropping 3.7 percent.
Outside the main index, Hannover Re is dropping 4.1 percent. The reinsurer said its first-half profit declined due to major losses in the first quarter, but maintained its full-year earnings target.
Peugeot and Renault are falling 7.65 percent and 6.85 percent, respectively, in Paris. Merrill Lynch cut its price target on both carmakers.
Technip is declining 7.2 percent and Total is sliding 1.2 percent. Airbus maker EADS is falling 6.2 percent.
Lenders Natixis, Societe Generale and Credit Agricole are losing between 4.3 percent and 1.2 percent.
Miner Rio Tinto is falling 3.1 percent. The miner and Japanese trading firm Mitsubishi Corp. made a joint offer to acquire the remaining shares of Australia-based Coal & Allied Industries Ltd. that they do not already own for A$122 per share in cash.
Anglo American and Antofagasta are losing 3.4 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively. BHP Billiton is down 2.3 percent.
Fresnillo is rising 4 percent and Randgold Resources is adding 3.9 percent, as precious metal prices surged.
Lloyds Banking is adding 4.8 percent. Royal Bank of Scotland is gaining 2.8 percent.
In economic news, Eurozone investor confidence deteriorated notably in August after improving in July. The sentix investor sentiment index, an indicator of confidence around 900 investors, fell to minus 13.5 from 5.3 points in July. Economists had expected the index to fall to just 4 points.
Meanwhile, Switzerland’s unemployment rate remained stable in July, data from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs showed. The seasonally adjusted jobless rate came in at 3 percent, in line with expectations and unchanged from June.
Across Asia/Pacific, major markets closed notably lower. Australia’s All Ordinaries lost 2.71 percent, China’s Shanghai Composite Index retreated 3.8 percent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 2.17 percent and Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 2.18 percent.
In the U.S., futures point to a lower open on Wall Street. In the previous session, the major averages showed big swings back and forth across the unchanged line, eventually ending the session mixed. While the Dow rose 0.5 percent, the Nasdaq fell 0.9 percent and the S&P 500 edged down 0.1 percent.
In the commodity space, crude for September delivery is sliding $2.93 to $83.95 per barrel, while December gold is rising $57.5 to $1709.3 a troy ounce.

Bay Street stocks may extend last week’s sell-offs at open Monday on falling energy prices and weak cues from the global equity markets amid crisis of confidence.
Global stocks extended losses today as worries over the downgrade of U.S. debt overshadowed relief at a European Central Bank pledge to buy Italian and Spanish bonds to aid the two nations avoid defaults.
While most Asian markets ended sharply lower overnight, European stocks were lingering deep in the red.
Rating agency Standard & Poor’s on late Friday downgraded U.S. sovereign credit rating by one notch to ‘AA+’ from ‘AAA’ with a negative outlook, taking into account the political risks and increasing debt-burden.
U.S. stock futures were pointing to a sharply lower open.
On Friday, the S&P/TSX Composite Index extended losses for a second session, shedding 217.96 points or 1.76 percent to 12,162.17.
The price of crude oil was extending losses Monday morning amid global growth concerns. Bank of America Merrill Lynch said crude oil prices will trend lower in the second half of 2011as additional barrels from Saudi Arabia and non-OPEC countries provide some relief. BofA sees Brent crude oil prices averaging $106 a barrel and WTI averaging $90 a barrel during the period. The price of gold advanced to a fresh record peak above $1,700 Monday morning as investors shun riskier assets amid global growth jitters. Earlier today, Goldman Sachs raised its gold price forecasts, citing the fall in U.S. real rates and intensifying sovereign debt issues in both sides of the Atlantic. The investment bank raised its three-month gold price forecast to $1,645 per ounce from $1,565 per ounce. It also upped its six-month and 12-month forecasts to $1,730 per ounce and $1,860 per ounce, respectively. Gold for December gained $48.70 to $1,700.50 an ounce.
In corporate news from Canada, Silver Wheaton (SLW.TO) reported a significantly higher second quarter profit at $148.1 million, or $0.42 per share, compared to $15.3 million, or $0.04 per share a year ago. Adjusted net earnings were $52.7 million, or $0.15 per share a year ago. Analysts were expecting the company to report earnings of $0.42 per share this quarter.
Mongolia focused gold miner Entree Gold (ETG.TO) reported a wider second quarter net loss of $3.6 million, compared to a loss of $3.4 million in the prior year. However on a per share basis, loss was lower at $0.03, as opposed to a loss of $0.04, reflecting a higher share count for the quarter.
Base-metals miner HudBay Minerals (HBM.TO) said it would divest its interest in the Fenix ferro-nickel project in Guatemala to the Solway Group for $140 million in cash at closing and $30 million upon the satisfaction of certain conditions during the course of Solway’s development of the project.

VANCOUVER, BC (August 8, 2011) Dominion Lending Centres Clearlease Reports With traders reacting to news of a credit rating downgrade for the U.S., stocks moved sharply lower at the start of trading on Monday August 8, 2011. The major averages all showed notable moves to the downside, extending the substantial downward move seen in recent sessions.
The major averages have edged up off their lows for the young session but currently continue to post steep losses. The Dow is down 221.72 points or 1.9 percent at 11,222.89, the Nasdaq is down 60.88 points or 2.4 percent at 2,471.53 and the S&P 500 is down 28.80 points or 2.4 percent at 1,170.58.
The initial weakness on Wall Street came on the heels of news that Standard & Poor’s lowered its long-term sovereign credit rating on the U.S. to AA+ from AAA, marking the agency’s first downgrade of the U.S. credit rating in 70 years.
S&P said that the downgrade reflects its opinion that the deficit reduction plan that Washington recently passed as part of the debt ceiling agreement falls short of what is necessary to stabilize the government’s medium-term debt dynamics.
“More broadly, the downgrade reflects our view that the effectiveness, stability, and predictability of American policymaking and political institutions have weakened at a time of ongoing fiscal and economic challenges to a degree more than we envisioned,” S&P said.
The ratings agency also said that the outlook for the U.S. credit rating is negative, noting that it could lower the rating to AA within the next two years.
Meanwhile, traders are also reacting to news that the European Central Bank is stepping up its purchases of Italian and Spanish bonds in response to the escalating debt crisis.
Reflecting concerns about the outlook for demand, steel stocks are posting particularly steep losses in early trading. The NYSE Arca Steel Index is down by 5.3 percent, falling to its worst intraday level in over a year.
Energy stocks are also seeing early weakness amid a considerable decrease by the price of crude oil, which is falling by more than $3 a barrel. Networking, railroad, and housing stocks are also posting significant losses, moving lower along with most of the other major sectors.
In overseas trading, stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region came under pressure on Monday amid news of the downgrade of the U.S. credit rating. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 Index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index both fell by 2.2 percent.
The major European markets are also showing significant moves to the downside on the day. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 Index has fallen by 1.5 percent, while the French CAC 40 Index and the German DAX Index are tumbling by 2.1 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively.
In the bond market, treasuries have moved sharply higher amid concerns about the economic outlook. As a result, the yield on the benchmark ten-year note, which moves opposite of its price, is down by 8.2 basis points at 2.476 percent.
